Korea Communications Commission (president Si Joong Choi) announced that according to their analysis of audience participation programs supporting businesses for 2008, a total of 45 broadcasting stations including KBS, district broadcaster, system operator and satellite broadcaster put 2.57billion won into broadcasting 2500 audience participation programs for the underprivileged class. Audience participation programs supporting business finds broadcast opportunity for programs that are based on handicapped people, migrant workers and opinions of the underprivileged class or on unique culture and custom and which have been produced by the audiences themselves. It has been expanding support and fund every year since 2001 to promote the public benefits of broadcasting and its accessibility to the audience. Analysis of the themes of those 2500 broadcasts in 2008 showed that 1783 (71.3%) were on daily news/culture such as "Investigation on Dokdo, Ulleungdo" that denounced Japan’s dominium over Dokdo, "Record of Taean" that documented the lives of Taean residents after the oil leakage and presentation on Insadong; 293 (11.7%) were programs related to the underprivileged such as on multi-cultural families and handicapped people; 284 (11.4%) were programs related to the unique history of a district. Furthermore, audience group-activity supporting businesses conduct activities that the government cannot carry out directly such as researching on the broadcasting environment, giving education on media and proposing policies, and a total of 500 million won were given to 33 organizations. |
