On June 27 at the Palace Hotel, the Korea Communications Commission (KCC, Chairman, Lee Hyo-seong) and the Korea TV HomeShopping Association (KOTA, President Jo Soong-yong) jointly opened a ceremony to declare mutual growth and cooperation between home shopping operators and suppliers (partner companies).
This purpose of the ceremony was to officially declare TV home shopping operators’ intent to carry out the “Guideline to Create an Environment of Mutual Growth for Home Shopping Broadcasting Operators and Suppliers” (in effect since January of 2019) and work closely with suppliers for mutual growth.
Chairman Lee attended the event where representatives from seven TV home shopping companies and seven suppliers signed and exchanged copies of the “Agreement for Mutual Growth between TV Home Shopping Operators and Suppliers.” The document included measures on abiding by the Home Shopping Guideline and drawing up and carrying out standards for bearing the production costs for pre-produced video content.
Once the “Standards on Bearing Production Costs for Pre-ProducedVideo Content” will go into effect on July 1, it is expected that suppliers will receive an 580 million KRW annually from home shopping operators for the use of pre-produced video content (if applied to the 2018 standard).
KCC Chairman Lee commented, “The home shopping operators’ voluntary pledge to improve unfair practices in the home shopping market, and also strive to set up an environment for fair transactions and mutual growth is not only in line with President Moon’s national challenge of ‘An Economy of Living Together? A Vibrant Fair Economy’ but also is very important for the future development of the home shopping market.
The KCC plans to monitor whether the home shopping guideline is being followed, and carry out other activities, such as form and operate a “Committee on Mutual Growth and Cooperation for Home Shopping Broadcasting,” foster an environment of mutual growth, ensure that an fair transaction system is in place and protect users.
